I was lucky enough to photograph another Navy homecoming in February. I cannot express how amazing it is to be out there and see these families be reunited. This day, four squadrons came home after seven months of deployment.
The first three arrivals gave me a chance to get emotionally prepared. I cry every time, and this day was no different. It’s very difficult to not get overcome with emotions seeing these reunions.
I loved all the personal touches the wives created to welcome back their pilots. The personalized beers were perfect.
Here they come!
The squadrons fly in as a group and go right over the hanger where their loved ones anxiously wait for them. Then they split into smaller groups and land.
The family I photographed consisted of three very excited little ones who obviously missed their Daddy. Their excitement was adorable as they spotted their dad and then saw him wave to them.
Once all twelve land, they exit together and walk in as a group carrying red roses for their ladies.
The families stand back as long as they can and then they run to each other. It’s the closest I’ve ever been to photographing pure joy.
Little L was so cute when she saw her Daddy. For the rest of the time I was there, she barely took her eyes off of him. She was positively star stuck. Adorable.
And one last shot from the day… I love that they have In-n-Out there for the pilots to enjoy! After seven months away, I’d say they earned it! : )
Welcome home! THANK YOU so much for allowing me to capture the day for you.
