Spring Sneak Peek {Kings County Nature Photographer}

While my true love is Autumn, there’s no denying the beauty of almost-Springtime and the blossoms awakening in the warm sunshine. Like last year and the year before that, I set out to capture some images of the lovely orchards near our home. This time of year is lovely in the Valley, isn’t it?

I even spotted a little green lady bug.

… and lots more blooms to come!

Birthday & Snow Day

Last week our little girl turned 7 years old (official portraits coming soon!). Here is a snapshot of her at her time-of-birth, exactly 7 years later.

We took the day and went to Sequoia National Park to play in the snow. The kids didn’t care much for it – I think we spent more time getting changed into snow clothes than we did actually playing in the snow! Oh well… we had fun anyway. Here’s a self-timer portrait of our little family (one with giant hands as her gloves weren’t warm enough and she borrowed her Daddy’s).

Since playing in the snow didn’t last long, we decided to explore the park from the warmth of the truck. Here are some of the images I snapped of this little piece of Winter Wonderland.

And my self-portrait……… what I look like most of the time in the eyes of my children!  ; )

Some Images from the Coast {Sonoma County Nature Photography}

I almost forgot to share these! Last month, my husband and I were lucky enough to have a night alone at the beach. My parents took our little ones and we snuck away to Bodega Bay for dinner, some cold fog (a VERY welcome treat after a long Summer in the Valley), and a lovely little getaway. It was too foggy for any of the beach photos I had planned, but I did get some quality time with my camera and these beautiful purple flowers outside of our hotel room.

Oh the dewey goodness! I love my macro lens.

After brunch (oh yes, it was “brunch” because without our little ones, we actually slept in… so wonderful!), we made friends with this guy – a pelican who had put on quite a show for us during our meal.

Thank you to my parents for taking good care of our children, thank you to our children for being easy travelers who sleep well no matter where they are, and thank you to the coast for having cool weather and allowing me to wear a sweatshirt for the first time in a very long time!

Autumn is Here {Hanford Nature Photography}

I LOVE Autumn. I love the change in the weather (finally a break from the heat!), I love the smells, I love the colors of the leaves and how they seem to be more intense every day. Here are a few leafy pictures from the last few weeks – I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!

My Favorite {Hanford Nature Photographer}

Hydrangeas are my most favorite flower. When I started thinking about ideas for the house we are building (it’s almost done!!!!!), I decided I’d love to wake up to hydrangeas each day. So the direction our house was built makes for a nice shady back patio. And my husband is building that with several planters specifically for hydrangeas.

With this in mind, I bought the most spectacular plant I could find and photographed the heck out of it. Now it’s just time to figure out which picture(s) I like best and enlarge them (BIG) to decorate the walls in what we are calling our “forever home” and plant this hydrangea in our new backyard. I can’t wait!

So far, this one is my favorite.

Did you know that I offer framed and unframed photos of my work? If you’re interested in purchasing a print, please contact me!

I love Autumn, I love Autumn

Autumn is my favorite time of the year. And Autumn in the Wine Country is a photographer’s dream. While we were visiting last weekend, we left our kids with their Grama & Grampa and spent a dreamy afternoon driving around Calistoga, St. Helena, Windsor, and Healdsburg. Here are some of my favorite pictures of one of my favorite places during my favorite time of the year.

Very minimal editing on these pictures – this is their true color. Amazing.

I nearly blinded myself taking this picture, but I love how it turned out, so I guess I won’t complain (too much).  ;)

And on the way home, we even stopped in for a tasting at Chalk Hill. Almost as delicious as the beautiful colors in the vineyards.

Happy Autumn!

Door {Weekly Photo Challenge} + More

This picture is for the Weekly Photo Challenge word of “door.” Pretty unique one, I’d say! This is in the little town of Hornitos, where we visited this weekend. Photographer’s dream!

And a few more pictures from the rest of our trip – in and around Mariposa and Hornitos. While we were there, we were treated to a truly amazing sunset.

And a great view of the moon over a small Valley town.

Even without the skies providing a show, there was lots to keep me and my camera busy.  ; )

And visitors in the morning sun…

Petal {Weekly Photo Challenge}

Happy Mother’s Day! This is a picture of the hydrangea my family gave me today. It’s just starting to bloom and this week’s challenge word is “petal.” Perfect.
